Mix Tape's History Remix

The long history of the 33 and 1/3rd books

I like to read about music history. The inspiration behind a song can change how I hear the song later. A general love song can take on a deeper meaning. Songs I thought were beautiful can turn out to be the opposite. I’ve seen the 33 and 1/3rd series of books for years. At first I didn’t read them thinking these were stories not related to the albums. I thought these were stories based on the albums. A way for authors to turn an album into a concept album through their ideas.

The books are stories behind the songs as well as how the album was received by the public and fans. The best books put an album in historical context as well as the artists’ history.

I’ve read about Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, Liz Phair, and Afghan Whigs. The book about Led Zeppelin 4 was about folklore and Great Britain history. This puts the album in a historical context that some music fans didn’t get. The Ramones was about their first album and the birth of American punk.

There are more books that I would love to get. The company that produces these books have more coming out. These books have coming out so long that there are many I cant find.

Most books are around 120 pages so they don’t challenge you. The right author can cram the info into those pages.

Keep the books coming.
