Galatic Empire Bureaucrats

I read the book The Return of the Jedi from a certain point of view. There were stories taken from the point of view of former Empire soldiers once the second Death Star was destroyed.

I’m not going to defend the Empire soldiers.

But….

What happened to those who spent their lives following the Empire? I’m sure some just changed allegiance. I’m sure some laid low and retired.

Let’s say you’re some bureaucrat working on some planet. You have a desk and go about your day. The Empire tells you that they are the righteous and they can defeat these rebels. Then, the rebels win. Did the Empire lie to you all this time? Were their programs not righteous? What will happen to this person’s planet? Will everyone in the office be fired?

I can’t believe the Empire soldiers and employees just give up.

The sequel movies that came out in the last ten years jumped decades to show a new Empire. I can spend several blogs on what was off about those movies. So now the curators of Star Wars are going back and filling in those questions. The Mandolorian takes place after Jedi. Ashoka is about that time as well. It’s that show that brings in General Thrawn.

Literary Star Wars introduced Thrawn in the 1990s. John Chung of Totally Awesome Films podcast wished cinema Star Wars used all this material. As I discovered new Star Wars shows and books, I wish they looked at that time after Jedi as well.
