Andrew Hickey- A Man that knows music
I wrote about all the positives of the podcast, “A History of Rock in 500 Songs.” Andrew Hickey has a really detailed and very entertaining show.
Those shows were so good that I bought several of Hickey’s books. If you want the history of rock in California, Hickey wrote the book for you, “California Dreaming.” To hear Hickey’s podcast, he really detests Jan and Dean. To read Hickey’s books, he admires their networking and assistance to other musicians.
Hickey likes The Beach Boys and you can tell from the podcasts. I’ve liked The Beach Boys since I was young. (A long time) Hickey wrote three books on Beach Boys albums. He detailed so many songs that I had to look up titles because I didn’t recognize the songs. (Several of my blogs about The Beach Boys were reactions to Hickey’s shows or books.) Hickey wrote about the inspiration for songs and how The Beach Boys incorporated current sounds into their songs.
His books go up to current times. “Runaway Dancer” is a fantastic song by Brian Wilson. I discovered it from a Andrew Hickey book.
Hickey wrote about the Monkees. That is different than his California sounds books. He also wrote a history of Dr Who.
Hickey continues to amaze me in how many things he can write about.
