Roger Daltrey solo - Under a Raging Moon
A few months back I wrote about Mix staying up all night watching television and listening to the radio. It had me thinking about 1980s radio when I used to fall asleep listening to the radio.
102.7 was the classic rock station that people listened to so I fell asleep to,that. Roger Daltrey released a solo album called “Under A Raging Moon.” The Who were over but Daltry released albums with songs written by Pete Townsend. The first single from the album was called,”After the Fire” written by Townsend. It was a good song but didn’t get far in American mainstream music.
The title track was written by John Parr. Sites I’ve looked at said it was a tribute to late Who drummer Keith Moon. Notice the title.
The song starts with this keyboard opening that goes on and on. By that time, it’s easy to settle into the song, perhaps daydream or doze. Lyrics about the drummer and the drum solo. That’s when I woke up in the middle of the night.
It’s all fine and good that 102.7 played the keyboard heavy song at midnight, but then is the drum solo. Can’t sleep to that.
I found out the song clocks in under 8 minutes. Surprising because the song has so much going on. There is quiet and mellow and raucous at the end.
Don’t play it a midnight thinking you are going to chill out.
