Who is this Pulaski Guy they Named a Bridge After?

Before I write about this monster of a bridge, this 3 and a half mile bridge, who was the Pulaski this was named after?

Casimir Pulaski was a Polish soldier who became instrumental in the American Revolution. He was born in Warsaw in 1745. Europe at the time was in constant war and land grabs. The country of Poland was under constant battle. Casimir came from a strong military family. Being young and out to live up to the family name, he joined a revolt in Poland vs. Russian interference. This didn’t go well for Casimir. While this action brought him to the attention of Benjamin Franklin, it ruined his name in Poland.

Benjamin Franklin was the ambassador to France during the American Revolution. People have spread the idea the Franklin spent his time womanizing and living it up, but he really sought help for the colonies. He raised money, found General VonStueben, and worked French help. Casimir was another Franklin discovery.

Pulaski would join Washington at Valley Forge. Things were looking down for Washington at this point and this influx of foreign military advisors helped Washington organize the troops. Pulaski was young and wanted to command a brigade. He would advise Washington in the up coming year. One of the times he assisted the Patriots was at the Battle of Monmouth. This time with Washington paid off as Pulaski led troops at the Battle of Savannah. Sadly, Pulaski was wounded in battle and he would die shortly afterward.
